Ed Stack, who has served as CEO for Dick's Sporting Goods for 36 years, is resigning the role and taking on the job of executive chairman and will continue as chief merchant.

Current company president Laurent Hobart will become CEO as of Feb. 1, 2021, according to a CNN report. She will be the company's first female CEO.

"She has proven herself to be a capable, innovative and respected leader who has helped drive our business and our culture," Stack said in a press release.

Under Stack's leadership, the retailer grew to 850-plus stores and $9 billion in revenue. His father founded the company in 1948.
