Electricite de France SA said Friday that sales for the first nine months of the year fell as the coronavirus pandemic had an estimated impact of around 2 billion euros ($2.36 billion).

The state-controlled French utility company said nine-month sales decreased to EUR48.85 billion from EUR50.96 billion in the first nine months of 2019.

The result represents an organic decrease of 4%.

EDF cited lower nuclear output, the fall in demand for electricity distribution and supply activities, and the slowdown or postponement of on-site works and service activities with customers as reasons for lower sales.

The company said it continues to expect 2020 earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization of between EUR15.2 billion and EUR15.7 billion.
