The Port Authority of Huelva has selected Ferrovial Construction to remodel the area for berthing Ferries and roll-on roll-off cargo vessels located at the South Quay. The project entails the installation of a new Ro-Ro ramp, as well as the construction of all the infrastructures necessary for the optimal operation of the planned fleet, including works in the berthing and mooring area and the enlargement of the embarkation and disembarkation area.

Access to the new Ro-Ro ramp will be via an L-shaped reinforcement concrete platform 90 metres long and 17 metres wide, founded on 37 piles 1.5 metres in diameter. This platform will allow road traffic access to the floating ramp, where boarding will take place.

The Ro-Ro ramp consists of a 50×28 metres rectangular floating steel structure moored to two new berthing dolphins, that are founded on three 1.5 m diameter piles and are located between the new fixed access platform and the quay edge line.

To the south of the new platform, 8 new berthing dolphins which will be built, all of them founded on 1.5 metre piles and up to 40 metres long. These structures will allow the berthing of ships of up to 190 metres in length and will be equipped with access gangways between all of them as well as bollards with a capacity of 100 tonnes.

After the construction of these docks, the new Ro-Ro ramp and its mooring and defence systems will be installed to the new docks. A new gangway will also be installed for passenger embarkation and disembarkation, and a pedestrian corridor will be installed along the entire South Quay.

The project will be completed with the renovation of the lighting, electricity and traffic light control installations.

This new contract strengthen Ferrovial's footprint in Huelva's port infrastructure, together with the North extension of the South Quay and the remodelling of the Gabarras Quay, concessioned by DECAL SAU.
