Funkwerk : participates in the second MCPTT (Mission Critical Push To Talk) Plugtest

Funkwerk AG, Kölleda, participated in the 2nd MCPTT (Mission Critical Push To Talk) Plugtest, which took place from 25 to 29 June at Texas A&M University in the Internet2 Technology Evaluation Center (ITEC). During the event the interoperability and functionality of MCPTT products based on 3GPP Release 14 from 31 manufacturers were tested within one week. The event was organised by ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute), one of the three major standardisation organisations in Europe. ETSI was supported by the TCCA (The Critical Communications Association), the PSCR (Public Safety Communication Research Program), the TAMU (Texas A&M University) and the European Commission.

MCPTT services provide functionality for critical communications. The most basic functions, comparable to a walkie-talkie device, as well as complex call scenarios with many participants and changing priorities and data and video transfer are possible. Users are customers such as police, emergency services and other public organisations, but also business users in industry. This technology can also be used in the next generation of railway communications.

Funkwerk successfully participated in this test with an LTE mobile radio CRLT.20 as so-called UE (user equipment) and an MCPTT client (the application on this radio) and was able to test common use cases together with a large number of other manufacturers of infrastructure and terminals. Among other things, voice calls, emergency calls and video calls were successfully tested.
