Early last year, Universitets- og hogskoleradet (UHR) began discussions about a long-term plan for higher education and research. The following, among other topics, were mentioned:

A proposal for 'missions' in Norwegian may deal with a merger of the areas of health and life sciences, 'one-health', 'planetary health', preventive and health-promoting activities into one large research and education area. In order to succeed in this, interdisciplinary collaboration and new research models are a prerequisite.

As a follow-up to these initial discussions, Jeanette H. Magnus, Director for the Centre for Global Health (CGH) was invited by UHR to present and offer an introduction (in Norwegian) about some of these selected topics. Her presentation, published above included:

Health and life sciences, One Health, Planetary Health, preventive and health-promoting work: what characterizes the various areas, what is the connection between them, and what is the connection between these areas and sustainability issues? How can these areas become important for municipal health and social services, as well as health and social education and research?

At the meeting the video presentation was followed by comments from experts in various fields:

Health and life sciences v/professor Carl Henrik Gorbitz, UiO

Planetary health, with senior lecturer Filip Maric, UiT

One health, v/professor Yngvild Wasteson, NMBU

Preventive and health-promoting work, v/Professor Torill Marie Bogsnes Larsen, UiB
