BRUSSELS, Sept 27 (Reuters) - EU antitrust regulators have resumed their investigation into the merger of Finnish engineering firm Konecranes and cargo handling machinery maker Cargotec after a near-two-month temporary halt, with a decision due by Jan. 13.

The EU executive, which acts as the competition enforcer in the 27-country bloc, suspended its scrutiny in late July and lifted the suspension on Sept. 13, according to a European Commission filing on Monday.

The EU competition enforcer opened a full-scale investigation in July on concerns that the deal to create a global leader in the sector would hamper competition and push up prices.

Sources have told Reuters that the companies would likely need to offer concessions to address regulatory concerns to get EU clearance.

The companies provide road and sea-cargo handling machinery and services to industries, factories, ports and terminals. (Reporting by Foo Yun Chee; editing by David Evans)
