Kura Sushi, a Japanese-based concept serving cuisine through a revolving sushi service model, opened last week in Edison, New Jersey, and will launch this weekend in Oak Brook, Illinois, marking its 44th and 45th U.S. stores, respectively.

New Jersey now has three locations, and the Oak Brook store marks the second for the state of Illinois.

"We are thrilled to further expand our presence in the greater Chicago region with the opening of our new Oak Brook location," Hitomi Vinciguerra, director of public relations and marketing at Kura Sushi USA, said in a company press release. "Committed to providing our guests with a tech-infused eater-tainment experience that includes robots, prizes and a revolving sushi bar, we are confident that the local Oak Brook community will find Kura Sushi to be a go-to destination for both authentic Japanese sushi and fun."

Offering over 130 dishes free of artificial sweeteners, seasonings, preservatives and colorings, the menu features nigiri, rolls, noodle dishes and desserts, as well as limited-time options introduced each month, referred to as Kura's Monthly Discoveries. A pinnacle of the Kura Sushi experience is its convergence of human and tech-powered service. Guests select sushi plates from the revolving sushi bar that circulates throughout the restaurant and place food and drink orders from the touch-panel tablet located at each table.

Once the kitchen staff prepares the orders, dishes zip down the top layer express belt — also known as the sushi highway — to the table. Further expanding the brand's tech-focused dining experience, Kur-B the KuraBot, is now in all Kura Sushi U.S. locations to assist waitstaff by delivering drink orders tableside.

Kura Sushi's Bikkura Pon Prize System is another part of its interactive experience. The system is comprised of a prize machine, touch panel and plate-disposal slot located at each table. Connected via sensors, the touch panel registers the number of plates dispensed into the plate disposal slot. For every five plates inserted, a short animation plays on the touch panel and for every 15 plates inserted, a prize is dispensed from the prize machine.

Kura Sushi USA Inc. was established in 2008 as a subsidiary of Kura Sushi Inc., a Japan-based revolving sushi chain with over 500 restaurants.
