The number of cyber attacks on digital infrastructure in Ukraine and NATO countries shot up 250 percent in the first months after the war began.

That is the conclusion of Googles Threat Analysis Group (TAG) and Mandiant in a .

In Ukraine, the Russians are mainly trying to disrupt infrastructure. In NATO countries, it is more about targeted phishing attacks on individuals. With this, the crooks want access to individuals and systems that may be of tactical importance.

The intensive attacks from Russia lasted through the summer vacations and revived in October, November. In the intervening period, the researchers point out, malicious actors affiliated with Belarus are carrying out cyber attacks.

Generally speaking, the attacks mainly target government agencies. Google and Mandiant expect these to continue uninterrupted. They also estimate, that disruptive attacks will increase - including in NATO countries - as Russia moves further away from its military targets.
