Bangkok, 16th February 2021 - Nestlé has appointed Professor Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai, a former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs in Thailand as Chairman of its South-East Asia Advisory Committee for the CEO of Zone Asia, Oceania and Sub-Saharan Africa (AOA), Chris Johnson.
Building on the Nestlé Group's strategic focus, the Advisory Committee will provide advice and guidance on matters relating to the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) ambitions of the Nestlé business in Thailand and the rest of South-East Asia.
In his role as Chairman of the South-East Asia Advisory Committee, Professor Dr. Surakiart will work with the Zone CEO and his management team based in Switzerland to ensure that the business in South East Asia is generating significant value for our shareholders and other stakeholders alike.
One area of focus will be how to 'build back better' in a post-COVID world, prioritizing sustainable solutions that will help advance the health of our planet and ensure there will be enough nutritious food grown sustainably.
'Professor Dr. Surakiart will help us in our mission to transform our business to be more sustainable and to ensure we are a force for good,' said Chris Johnson. 'His expertise and his experience at the highest levels of public life and business for many years will be invaluable as we work to meet the ESG commitments we have made, while maximizing long-term value for Nestlé.'
Professor Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai, a Thai citizen, held several senior government roles in Thailand including Minister of Finance, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister. A lawyer by training, he is currently Chairman of the Asian Peace and Reconciliation Council. He has worked with Thai companies and with multinationals, serving on Boards of Directors or as a senior advisor for nearly twenty-five years.
