MAYS LANDING, N.J. (July 7, 2016) - Atlantic City Electric (ACE) customers will have an opportunity to save money by conserving energy on Friday, July 8.

An increased demand for electricity throughout the Atlantic City Electric region is anticipated for July 8. While the region's power supply is expected to be sufficient to meet high demand, ACE customers can help conserve energy and save money through Energy Wise Rewards during the Peak Savings Day. Friday's Peak Savings Day conservation period will be called from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

For customers participating in Atlantic City Electric's Energy Wise Rewards (EWR) program ACE will cycle participants' air conditioner compressors off and on for short intervals during this time frame.

Because the air conditioner fan will continue to run, most customers will not notice a temperature change in their home, and those who do should experience only a 1- to 3-degree change. It may take up to a half-hour after the event ends for air conditioners to resume normal operations.

Energy Wise Rewards is a voluntary program that offers customers a choice of a web-programmable thermostat or an outdoor switch, which the utility installs at no charge to the customer. During summer periods of peak electric demand, EWR works to reduce electricity usage by cycling central air conditioner compressors off and on for short periods of time during periods of peak electricity use. Customers will receive a one-time bill reduction of $50 when Atlantic City Electric installs the EWR device in their home. Atlantic City Electric customers using Energy Wise Rewards can also save money by conserving energy.

Atlantic City Electric asks all customers to conserve electricity. Customers can take simple conservation steps:

  • Raise air-conditioning thermostats setting 1 to 3 degrees, if health permits, and use an electric fan which doesn't require as much energy and the air will seem cooler without sacrificing comfort.
  • Keep window shades, blinds or drapes closed to block the sunlight during the hottest part of the day and to retain cooler air inside your home or business.
  • Limit the use of electrically heated water and turn off non-essential appliances and as many lights as possible.
  • Limit opening refrigerator and freezer doors.
  • Postpone using high-energy appliances like electric stoves, washing machines, dishwashers and dryers until the evening.

Customers can learn more about Energy Wise Rewards by calling 1-866-355-4229 or visiting www.atlanticcityelectric.com/rewards.
