Ponsse "A logger's best friend" along with Kleiman Off-Road Racing joined up with local loggers to raise funds for cancer research and awareness. Mark Kleiman of Wilson, Michigan, competes in the Pro Light division of the TORC off road racing series. He debuted his pink race truck at the Bark River, Michigan, races in August. At that time an American Cancer Society representative was presented a $13,000 check with donations coming from Michigan loggers and log truck drivers as well as the Bark River Lions Club and Jim/Patti Charlier. This Labor Day weekend at the Crandon, Wisconsin, off road races another check will be presented in the amount of $15,000. These funds were donated by Wisconsin logging companies along with two logging companies based out of Washington and Kentucky.
It had been more than a year since Mark had been on the track. He had been in the spotter's tower watching his two sons who have been racing in the Pro Light division this past year. At the Bark River race, for the first time ever, Mark and his boys, Cody and Kyle, all competed against one another. Mark said he always wanted to race with his sons, but if he were to jump back into the driver's seat there had to be a purpose for the truck to be out there. Jimmy Charlier, the team's crew chief, came up with the idea of a pink truck, piggybacking a fellow logger's campaign. Shamco Logging, Inc. had their log truck, Ponsse Ergo harvester and Ponsse Buffalo forwarder painted pink. To date they have raised nearly $70,000 for the American Cancer Society through Relay for Life events.
"Everybody has had somebody affected by cancer somehow." Mark states. "This is the perfect opportunity to give back and help the community."
