Captaris, Inc. (Nasdaq: CAPA), a leading provider of software products that automate document-centric processes, and IKON Office Solutions (NYSE: IKN), the world's largest independent channel for document management systems and services, today announced that Hanson Pipe & Precast has selected IKON to integrate and deploy Captaris RightFax as an integral component to its evolution from a paper-based business to a digital enterprise. Hanson Pipe & Precast, with 90 plants in the U.S., is North America's largest supplier and manufacturer of concrete pipe and precast concrete products. Moving from paper to digital with electronic invoices, a digital document management solution and a new Oracle platform, Hanson determined that although existing fax machines didn't fit into the digital strategy, the firm still needed fax capabilities. "Many of our more than 16,000 vendors and 10,000 customers rely on fax transmissions to conduct their businesses," said Art Babb, Hanson's Shared Services controller.

To meet customer\vendor preferences while supporting its digital strategy, Hanson looked to IKON Office Solutions to develop an overall document delivery, workflow and storage solution. IKON assessed Hanson's existing workflow, evaluated the need for secure document delivery, and took a look at the company's overall business processes. IKON then created a solution utilizing Captaris RightFax to replace existing fax machines and integrate with Hanson's overall document management strategy.

Today Hanson's more than 300 employees have Direct Inward Dial numbers that give direct access to customers as well as allow Hanson's mobile users to handle faxes on the road. Faxes are managed directly from users' desktops or via centrally located Canon multifunction devices. Paper documents are scanned with IKON DocSend, a solution that works as an on-ramp for putting hard copies on the network. Users -- in credit and billing, accounting, human resources, legal, and help desk departments -- deliver documents quickly, reliably and securely directly from the multifunction devices via RightFax.

Babb estimates that the firm is saving more than $50,000 annually just in the elimination of postage. It's also realizing even greater savings in productivity and customer service. "We're getting more productivity, more functionality and more security. In terms of future integrations we can do much more with RightFax to further our digital evolution because of its flexibility," Babb concluded.
