CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Jan. 22, 2014) - Lorrie Bell, a certified inspector for the ARC-190 radio program, has been named the Rockwell Collins 2013 Volunteer of the Year for her work on behalf of children with mental health issues, and men and women serving in the U.S. military.

For the past ten years, Bell has been a devoted volunteer for Tanager Place, a nonprofit organization in Cedar Rapids that provides treatment for children with social and mental health diagnoses.

She works to raise funds so every child receives items for the winter such as scarves, hats and mittens, and plays an important role in organizing the nonprofit organization's annual holiday party for the children it serves.

Additionally, Bell spends her time away from work hand-crafting greeting cards that are distributed to men and women serving in the U.S. military through Operation Write Home.

"I volunteer for these organizations because of the happiness I can help bring to the children at Tanager Place and to the men and woman serving in the military," said Bell.

As part of Bell's recognition, Rockwell Collins will be making a $1,000 donation in her honor to Tanager Place.

For the second year, the winner of this award was determined by employee votes. After a committee narrowed the nominations to six semi-finalists, employees around the world voted for the person they felt best exemplified the Rockwell Collins volunteering spirit.

Richard Dove, a principal electrical engineer in Melbourne, Fla., and Haywood G. Stowe III, manager of Enterprise Planning in Cedar Rapids, were voted finalists. Dove is a dedicated volunteer for Nana's House, which works to provide loving homes for neglected and abandoned children. Stowe volunteers for a number of organizations including Big Brothers Big Sisters, National Society of Black Engineers and Serve-the-City Ministry. Five hundred dollars will be donated in each of their names to their selected nonprofit organizations.
