October 19, 2018

RSC Energia employees are going to take part in a series of international experiments SIRIUS-18/19 conducted by the Institute for Biomedical Problems (IBMP) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

SIRIUS (Scientific International Research In Unique Terrestrial Station) is an experiment, which is to be conducted in preparation for deep-space missions, first of all, to a circumlunar station. Participants in the study will spend in isolation in the ground experimental facility of the IBMP 17 days to a year.

Among candidates for participation in the experiment are engineers-testers of the Space Flight Center of the Corporation Nataliya Titinkina, Artem Knyazev, Darya Zhidova and Dmitry Diyakov.

- We closely cooperate with the IBMP under the ISS program with an outlook for joint work to prepare deep-space missions.I personally took part in the first SIRIUS mission, I was mission commander in 2017, and I also took part in a dry immersion experiment aimed at studying the effects of zero gravity on the human body. For us SIRIUS is a test range for trying out solutions and equipment, research program, crew activities, - said Mark Serov, deputy head of Space Flight Center of Energia.

In late November the already approved crew will carry out a 'dry run' in the experimental facility, while the SIRIUS experiment proper is to start in February next year.
