Silicon Image (NASDAQ:SIMG), a leading provider of multimedia connectivity solutions and services, today announced that Dr. David Lee, company founder and pioneer of the DVI™ and HDMI® connectivity standards, has been inducted into the Consumer Electronics Hall of Fame in an awards ceremony and dinner held on Monday, Nov. 10 in New York City.

With his induction into the CE Hall of Fame, Dr. Lee joins an elite group of inventors, engineers, business leaders and journalists who are recognized for their contributions as pioneers in the consumer electronics industry.

“Dr. David Lee’s contributions to the consumer electronics industry are immeasurable,” said Camillo Martino, chief executive officer of Silicon Image, Inc. “He is a true visionary whose ideas and drive changed the entire landscape of digital connectivity, and his success in building a strong foundation for Silicon Image is what allows the company to continue to stand as the leading connectivity innovator in the CE and mobile markets.”

Dr. Lee received his undergraduate, masters and PhD degrees in engineering from UC Berkeley. He founded Silicon Image in 1995 with the goal of creating a product to lower the cost of bandwidth and high-speed connections by replacing analog audio/video cables with a semiconductor solution capable of delivering high-speed digital data for emerging high-definition digital displays. By 1998, Silicon Image had developed the industry-changing DVI technology, and the company played an instrumental role in the release of the cutting-edge HDMI 1.0 specification in 2003. Today, more than 4 billion HDMI products have been sold worldwide.

In recognition of its contribution to modern television and home theater technology, HDMI was awarded the Technology and Engineering Emmy Award by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in 2009 and 2014.

Dr. Lee left Silicon Image in 2004, five years after taking the company public, to pursue new entrepreneurial projects. In 2011, he founded the photography technology startup company Dual Aperture, and is active in many academic and philanthropic causes.

“I am tremendously honored to be chosen by the CEA for this prestigious recognition,” said Dr. David Lee. “I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to pursue ideas that have made such a significant impact in altering the high-speed connectivity space at a crucial time in the technology’s development. It has been extremely gratifying to see Silicon Image continuing to set the standard in connectivity beyond DVI and HDMI to MHL and 60GHz mobile consumer devices.”
