Bucharest - STRABAG, the European construction technology group, has been awarded another key contract in Romania.

Together with consortium partner GEIGER, STRABAG will build a 15.7 km long section of the A3 motorway between Cmpia Turzii and Cheani for EUR 85 million (STRABAG's share: 60 %). Construction is scheduled to start in 2022 and will take around 18 months.

'This contract further strengthens our leading market position in Romania,' says Thomas Birtel, CEO of STRABAG SE. 'We have already built two sections of the A3 and this project represents a further contribution on our part to the expansion of the motorway infrastructure in Romania.'

In 2018, STRABAG completed the 10.1 km section between Ungheni and Ogra, followed by the construction of a 9.2 km section from Ungheni to Trgu Mure (completion in 2021). In addition, STRABAG is currently building the nearly 19 km long bypass from Oradea to the A3 at a cost of approx. EUR 110 million.

When completed, the A3 will cover 588 kilometres from the Romanian capital of Bucharest via the commercial centres of Ploieti, Braov, Cluj-Napoca and Oradea to Bor on the Hungarian border, where it will connect to Hungary's M4 motorway.
