Syniverse Announces New Leadership for MEA and Europe, Establishes MEA Regional Headquarters

New alignment enables company to better address unique needs of two distinct, dynamic regions.

TAMPA, Fla. – Sept. 1, 2011 – Furthering its commitment to provide superior local customer focus across the globe, Syniverse today announced it has organized sales and operations for the Middle East and Africa (MEA) and Europe into two distinct operating regions. Leading the regions are Nabil Baccouche, who has joined Syniverse as Vice President and Managing Director of MEA, and Giorgio Miano, who was named Vice President and Managing Director of Europe.

“With increasing demand for mobile reach and capabilities in the Middle East and Africa growing alongside the rapid evolution of the European mobile market, we can best address both regions’ unique needs via the leaders and structure we have put in place,” said Alfred de Cárdenas, President, Global Sales and Customer Support, Syniverse. “Both Giorgio and Nabil are highly experienced and can offer unmatched Syniverse expertise to deliver the best possible localized service.”

With more than a decade of experience in the mobile industry, Nabil Baccouche joins Syniverse from Emirates International Telecommunications (EIT), where he held the position of Vice President of International Voice, Data and Roaming for Tunisie Telecom, partially owned by EIT. Prior to EIT, Baccouche held the role of Managing Director at Belgacom ICS (BICS), during which time he established the company’s Dubai regional office.

Baccouche will lead his regional team from the new Syniverse MEA headquarters in Dubai. With offices in Dubai since 2007, Syniverse serves more than 85 customers in the region, including Vodacom South Africa, Saudi Telecom Company and Safaricom in Kenya.

“Syniverse has the capability to support the enormous scope for mobile development across the Middle East, North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa with tailored solutions to address each market’s specific needs,” Baccouche said. “From our Dubai headquarters, we are ideally positioned to support our customers in this part of the world as they continue to advance their networks and seek a full solutions partner that can ensure the highest quality mobile experience.”

Syniverse’s European headquarters will remain in London, under the leadership of Giorgio Miano. Through more than seven years at Syniverse where he served in various leadership roles in both Latin America and Europe, and during which time he was named as a prestigious Global Telecoms Business “40 under 40” telecoms leader for two consecutive years, Miano has a proven industry track record that will guide strategy and direction to Syniverse’s European customers.

“I’m very pleased to undertake this exciting new challenge,” Miano said. “I look forward to leading the Syniverse team in Europe as we grow our business here while continuing to serve our more than 190 European customers with innovative roaming, messaging and network solutions.”
