In the first ten months of 2015, the demand for electricity rose by 1.5% compared to 2014

In October 2015, according to data collected by Terna, the company that manages the national electricity grid, without the effect of temperature and considering the same number of days, electricity demand in Italy dropped by 0.7%, compared to the same month last year. Given that in October 2015 there was one less business day (22 vs 23), and negligible temperature changes compared to October 2014, the electricity demand of 25.9 billion kWh corresponds to a decline of 1.8%.

In the first ten months of the year the electricity demand was 263.3 billion kWh, up 1.5% compared to the same period in 2014 (considering the same number of days this is an increase of 1.4%).
The 25.9 billion kWh required in October 2015 were distributed for 46.20% in the North, 30.8% in Central Italy and 23.0% in the South. At the territorial level, the variation in electricity demand in October 2015 was negative all over the country: -2.4% in the North, -1.0% in Central Italy and -1.2% in the South.

In October 2015, the electricity demand was met for 83.4% with national production and for the remaining part (16.6%) with the balance of electricity exchanged with foreign countries. In detail, net national production (21.8 billion kWh) fell by 0.9% compared to the volumes in October 2014. Wind power (+21.3%), hydroelectric (+11.8%) and geothermal (+5.7%) energy production continued to increase. Thermoelectric (-4.7%) and photovoltaic (-8.0%) production both declined.

The short-term profile for October 2015 showed a seasonally adjusted variation in electricity demand compared to the previous month equal to -2.1%, with a trend that continues to be stable.
The provisional detailed monthly analysis of electricity demand for 2015 and the definitive monthly analysis for 2014 are available in the publication 'Rapporto Mensile sul Sistema Elettrico', (Italian version only) under the section 'Sistema elettrico >> Dispacciamento >>Dati esercizio' at www.terna.it.
