URS Awarded Contract to Install Mercury Control Technology at the Cayuga Operating Company's Unit 2 in Lansing, New York

LANSING, NY - May 12, 2014 - URS Corporation has been awarded a contract to perform a full scale installation of the GORE® Mercury Control System (GMCS) at Cayuga Operating Company's (COC) Unit 2, in Lansing, New York.

The GMCS is a mercury control technology for the coal-fired power industry developed by W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc. (Gore). As an authorized integrator of the technology, URS Corporation will perform all engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and start-up activities for the project. The installation will be completed in the fall of 2014.

The installation at the Lansing plant will be the third full-scale GMCS project for the coal-fired power industry and will further demonstrate the ability of the GMCS solution to solve the power industry's challenging mercury control problems. Based on a novel Sorbent Polymer Composite (SPC) material developed by Gore, the mercury control technology provides high efficiency and a high capacity for removing elemental and oxidized mercury from flue gas streams.

Integrating the GMCS into COC's existing flue gas desulfurization system provides a cost-competitive solution to comply with New York Department of Environmental Conservation's NYCRR Part 246, Mercury Reduction Program for Coal-Fired Electric Utility Steam Generating Units. The New York program establishes mercury emission limits that are half the Federal Mercury Air Toxics Standards (MATS) limits. The New York State limits will be effective beginning January 2015.

"The GMCS technology is a necessary investment as COC works towards complying with the New York Department of Environmental Conservation's mercury reduction program." said Doug Roll, Project Manager, COC. "This technology will help reduce emissions in our coal-fired units and add to the many ways COC is focusing on offering cleaner, more efficient power."

Jonas Klingspor, Vice President, URS Corporation stated: "URS looks forward to helping COC meet their upcoming mercury emissions requirements. This project will further demonstrate the distinct values of the URS/Gore mercury control solution to the electric utility industry."
