Bank of America is excited to sponsor two upcoming Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) events, designed to inspire young women to pursue careers in STEM fields. The events coincide with this year's International Women's Day on March 8, dedicated to celebrating women's achievements and the importance of equality.

NCWIT Awards for Aspirations in Computing: Beginning March 6 and lasting through the weekend, Bank of America will welcome 40 National NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing (AiC) winners in partnership with the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) to Charlotte for their awards ceremony weekend. Awards for AiC recipients, grades 9-12, are selected based on their aptitude and aspirations in technology and computing, as demonstrated by their computing experience, computing-related activities, leadership experience, tenacity in the face of barriers to access, and plans for post-secondary education. Since 2007, nearly 14,000 students have received an Award for AiC.

STEM Saturday: On March 7, Bank of America, in partnership with Discovery Place, will host hundreds of young female students from Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools for STEM Saturday. STEM Saturday is designed to raise awareness and spark interest in elementary and middle school-aged girls to pursue a career in technology or computer science. The event and the day's activities will be held at Discovery Place Science, a technology and science museum located in the Uptown area of Charlotte. STEM Saturday festivities include hands-on, interactive exhibits and STEM workshops for the girls, as well as family information sessions. Additionally, Girls Who Code, Project Scientist and Digi-Bridge will be on hand to provide advice and promote career paths and learning opportunities to participants. Sir Purr, the mascot of the Carolina Panthers, will also make an appearance.

Sponsorship of these events aligns with Bank of America's broader effort to educate and inspire more girls and underrepresented students in the fields of computer science and technology, which is critical for the health of the technology industry.

"The future of technology is diverse and inclusive," said Aditya Bhasin, Bank of America Consumer, Small Business and Wealth Management Technology executive who is based at the company's headquarters in Charlotte. "Bank of America is committed to supporting students - especially girls and those who are underrepresented - to ensure their early introduction to computer science and technology education and awareness of STEM career opportunities."

Discovery Place is a private 501(c)(3) nonprofit education organization dedicated to inspiring the exploration of science and the natural world through exhibits and educational programs that inform, challenge and engage audiences of all ages. Bhasin serves on the board of trustees.
