As the coronavirus outbreak eases in Hong Kong and restrictions on restaurants relax gradually, CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) will give out 80,000 bottles of longterm disinfectant spray to help around 12,000 restaurants in its supply area fight the virus and strengthen confidence among diners.

CLP Power will also provide HK$100 worth of restaurant coupons for use in over 500 participating restaurants to around 40,000 customers who currently benefit from the company's Concessionary Tariff for the Elderly. The coupons and the list of participating restaurants will be sent out to eligible customers in late June and can be used in July and August.

CLP Power Managing Director Mr T K Chiang said, 'The coronavirus will be with us for some time. It is vital to maintain personal hygiene as our daily lives and business activities gradually return to normal. By helping restaurants disinfect their premises and giving out restaurant coupons, CLP Power hopes to strengthen the confidence of people to dine out and support underprivileged elderly people so as to boost Hong Kong's economy in the aftermath of the outbreak.'

Restaurants will receive notification letters from CLP Power in phases from mid-June. They can claim the spray at specific time as stated in the letter by bringing along the letter with company chop to CLP Power's customer service centres in Sham Shui Po or Yuen Long.

CLP Power will also work with six major catering associations to distribute the disinfectant spray to their member restaurants. The six catering associations are the Hong Kong Catering Industry Association, the Association of Restaurant Managers, the Hong Kong Federation of Restaurants and Related Trades, the Association for Hong Kong Catering Services Management Ltd., the Institution of Dining Art, and the Hong Kong Japanese Food and Cuisine Association.

Earlier this year, CLP Power allocated HK$20 million to run a Let's Eat and Cheers programme from January to April to help people in need while generating business for restaurants. A total of HK$200 worth of restaurant coupons were distributed through nongovernmental organisations to each of the 100,000 disadvantaged households, including elderly people, low-income families, and tenants of sub-divided units to use in more than 700 participating restaurants.

The disinfectant spray is developed by a team led by Professor Yeung King Lun from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. It is a natural antibacterial spray which has been examined by testing centres around the world, and proven to effectively kill up to 99.9% of bacteria, fungi, and viruses. The disinfectant spray provides 30 days of surface protection. It has also passed multiple tests to prove it is non-toxic, harmless to skin, and safe for the environment.

Besides catering trade, small and medium enterprises (SME) in retail and hotel trades are also facing extraordinary challenges. CLP Power launched an electricity bill payment deferral programme in May to SME customers of the three trades. Customers in need can apply for deferring their electricity bills of May and June 2020 for two months to ease their operating burden.
