KOÇ HOLDING HONORARY CHAIRMAN RAHMI M. KOÇ AWARDED UK ROYAL HONOR

British Ambassador to Turkey David Reddaway bestowed the insignia of Honorary Commander of The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire on Koç Holding Honorary Chairman Rahmi M. Koç on behalf of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Earlier this year to coincide with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's birthday celebrations, The British Embassy announced that Honorary Chairman of Koç Holding, Rahmi M. Koç had been appointed Honorary Commander of The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) for his enduring and distinguished contributions to Turkish-British relations. The British Ambassador to Turkey, David Reddaway, presented Mr. Koç with his CBE insignia at a ceremony held at the British Consulate General, Istanbul.

The Ambassador, "I am delighted to be conferring the CBE insignia on behalf of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II..."

This important award is in recognition of Mr. Koc's unique contribution to Turkish-British relations and his philanthropy. We were also very pleased that Mr. Koc was present at the state banquet Her Majesty hosted in Buckingham Palace last week in honour of President Gül's state visit.

Mr. Koç expressed his gratitude at being appointed Honorary Commander of The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. "I regard the arrival of a golden-age in relations between Turkey and the United Kingdom" as extraordinarily important. Above all, Turkey and the United Kingdom's growing trade volume provides a glimpse of the shape of things to come for a world that currently faces a critical Europe-wide financial crisis."

About the Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE):

The Honorary Commander of The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) honour was first established as part of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire founded in
1917 by George V of the United Kingdom and is awarded for an individuals' distinguished service in the name of the British Empire. The "Most Excellent Order of the British Empire" comprises of five classes in civil and military divisions: 1) Knights Grand Cross (GBE) or Dame Grand Cross (GBE) 2) Knight Commander (KBE) or Dame Commander (DBE) 3) Commander (CBE) 4) Officer (OBE) 5) Member (MBE). Candidates are identified by the British government and sent for approval to the Sovereign. The June 22, 2011 dated statement by the British Embassy Ankara states that the CBE honour "is awarded to individuals whose role and high- profile in their related fields have set a global example" and that Koç Holding Honorary Chairman Rahmi M. Koç had received his coincident with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's birthday celebrations.
