Hospital da Luz Helps to Take Care of the Heart

08-10-18

Cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of death (29,5%) in Portugal, more than half the population between 18 and 79 years old being estimated to present two or more risk factors. In the scope of the World Heart Day, celebrated on September 29, Hospital da Luz Setúbal undertook several initiatives to show how to counter this trend and live better and longer, simply by altering lifestyle.

To use the stairs instead of the elevator is one of the changes we all should make, whenever possible. To exemplify the benefits of this option, the hospital marked on the steps of the inside staircase the kilocalories lost by doing this simple physical effort. Going up 105 steps corresponds to 11.55 kcal lost.

Furthermore, the flyer 'Take Care of the Heart' was distributed, including information and practical advice to prevent cardiovascular diseases and maintain a healthier heart.
