London, Jun 5 (EFE).- The English Premier League will return behind closed doors with Aston Villa vs Sheffield United and Manchester City vs Arsenal on 17 June, the organization said Friday.

It will mark the end of a three month hiatus for one of football's most lucrative leagues due to the coronavirus. There are still nine match days to go.

With the first two games out of the way, bringing all the teams level on matches played, match day 30 will kick-off on Friday 19 June with Norwich vs Southampton and then Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United.

Runaway league leaders Liverpool, who need to win just two of their remaining matches to secure the title, make their grand return on 20 June with the Merseyside derby away to Everton, although it is possible the fixture will move to a neutral ground.

If Manchester City lose to Arsenal and Liverpool beat their cross-city rivals, then Jürgen Klopp's men will be crowned champions.

The rest of match day 30 will go ahead as follows.

On Saturday 20 June, Watford will host Leicester City, Brighton welcome Arsenal, West Ham take on Wolverhampton and Bournemouth, who are struggling to stay afloat, receive Crystal Palace.

The following day Newcastle United host Sheffield United, Aston Villa meet Chelsea and Everton take on the Reds.

Monday 22 will see Pep Guardiola's men host nearby team Burnley.

The unveiling of the next Premier League fixtures came a day after a new rule on the number of substitutes allowed per game was announced.

Given the density of fixtures for the remainder of the 2019/20 season, teams will be allowed to make five substitutions per match rather than the usual three, but will only be able to do so on three allocated occasions during the game and at halftime.

Many teams will have to play three games in less than eight days as the league tries to clear the backlog of fixtures.EFE
