Oil Search contributes millions to health services

Over the last four years, Oil Search has contributed more K70 million to health services in Hela Province.

In 2019, we have committed a further K23 million, including K3 million for the Koroba District Hospital and K9 million for a new Accident and Emergency Ward in Tari. Hela Provincial Health Authority Chairman and Oil Search Managing Director, Peter Botten, has also made a personal donation of K500,000 towards the construction of the new ward.

As most of our operating locations are in rural and remote areas that can lack adequate public health care services and infrastructure, we aim to promote a proactive approach to community development by equipping staff with the capability to effectively implement community development programmes. We have supported project area communities with access to health services since 1992.

Our Medical and Occupational Health Service (MOHS) consists of multiple on-site clinics and medical resources across our operations. Through the MOHS, we provide health care services for our workforce and local communities. During 2018, the service treated more than 21,800 patients at its clinics in PNG and Australia and assisted with 58 medical evacuations of community members and 25 members of the workforce.

Through the continued support of Oil Search Foundation (OSF), Hela Provincial Hospital is in the top three of the highest performing health facilities in PNG. The foundation supports the hospital's financial management functions, provides funding for doctor salaries, manages the hospital's infrastructure upgrades, provides medical equipment and mentors for public health and clinical governance.

Through our substantial support, the foundation facilitated extended outreach patrols to some of the most remote parts of PNG, supporting 1,930 mobile health clinics to deliver more than 366,700 vaccinations.
