Party City (NYSE:PRTY) said today that it plans to hire approximately 25,000 temporary employees and open up more than 270 Halloween City pop-up stores in preparation for a busy Halloween season.

Party City CEO Jim Harrison said, “Consumers’ continuing search for uniqueness has really influenced Halloween costume shopping. Creating that special costume and sharing it through social media is now an important aspect of how consumers celebrate. We believe that Party City, both on-line and in our stores, offers the widest assortment of costumes and accessories, allowing consumers to differentiate themselves.”

Recently compiled consumer insights by the company reinforced this dynamic with over 50% of those surveyed by Party City indicating that it’s important for them to look unique in their costumes and half saying that they were likely to post a selfie of themselves in their costume.

The top 10 costumes for adults this year, according to the NRF survey, include everything from witches, zombies and vampires to licensed super-hero characters such as Batman, Spider-Man and Wonder Woman, all of which can be found at Party City stores and online at partycity.com.

Of the more than 7,000 people surveyed by the NRF and Prosper Insights & Analytics, 35% indicated they look for costume ideas online while 30% say they look for inspiration inside a retail outlet.
