PGT Innovations' Venice team donates more than 1,100 food items to All Faiths Food Bank's Campaign Against Summer Hunger

Hunger isn't seasonal.

It doesn't end just because it's summer vacation. In fact, for many children who depend on school meal programs, the end of the school year may often mean three long months at home without enough to eat.

But with the help of community partners, food banks across the country are working to solve summer hunger through various campaigns to end summer hunger. In June, PGT Innovations' Venice location participated in its inaugural Storm Out Summer Hunger initiative.

Collection bins were placed throughout the facilities, and team members donated non-perishable snacks and meal items to provide meals to children who are out of school for the summer and also support the food bank in general.

The PGT Innovations' team in Venice partnered with All Faiths Food Bank in Sarasota, collecting more than 1,100 food items for its Campaign Against Summer Hunger.

In Sarasota County, nearly 50 percent of children participate in free and reduced meal programs at school, and in DeSoto County, that number jumps to 100 percent. When combined, along with their younger siblings who aren't in school, roughly 40,000 children are at risk of hunger.

In 2018, All Faiths Food Bank served 82,000 people in Sarasota and DeSoto Counties, distributing 8.75 million meals and 10.5 million pounds of food to children, families, seniors and veterans, as part of its mission to provide healthy solutions to end hunger in our community.
