We are delighted that our project LSQ London (formerly 48 Leicester Square) has been shortlisted for the 49th Structural Steel Design Awards (SSDA).

Placing amongst 16 other shortlists within the Awards, the chosen projects showcase steel's flexibility and versatility in a number of different and varying applications further to reflecting the wide geographical spread of steel's appeal for a variety of projects ranging from across the UK.

LSQ London, designed by Make Architects, occupies the entire West side of Leicester Square in Central London, offering over 90,000ft of Grade A commercial space and 40,000ft of retail space.

Waterman were appointed by an overseas client and CORE, as Development Managers, and we worked closely with Multiplex Construction Europe, to provide structural engineering consultancy services.

The scheme included part demolition, leaving a 4-sided retained façade, and reconstruction of the new internal structure to provide a nine-storey building, including a new two-storey basement. The contemporary roof design is supported by a central core and new perimeter stanchions to create a completely column-free office space, spanning up to 12m and providing efficient floor space to appropriate market standards.

John Towers, our Structures Director, commented; 'We are proud to have been shortlisted for this prestigious award. It is a great testament to the team's collaboration and the project's design.'

The winners will be announced at an evening reception in London in October.
