Gerardus Johannes Wijers is a Dutch businessperson who has been the head of 10 different companies and currently occupies the position of Chairman-Supervisory Board of ING Groep NV, Chairman-Supervisory Board for ING Bank NV (a subsidiary of ING Groep NV) and Chairman at Vereniging Natuurmonumenten. He is also on the board of HAL Holding NV, Het Concertgebouw NV and HAL Trust and Chairman at Ubbo Emmius Fund and Vice President of Young Pianist Foundation.
He previously held the position of Chief Executive Officer for Akzo Nobel NV, Member of European Round Table of Industrialists, Member of Platform Internet voor Alledag, Chairman-Supervisory Board for Heineken NV, Chairman-Supervisory Board of AFC Ajax NV, Chairman at Sanoma Digital Group the Netherlands BV, Senior Vice President for The Boston Consulting Group Ltd., Chairman at Stichting Het Wereld Natuur Fonds Nederland and Chairman at Stitching Oranje Fonds.
He received a doctorate from Erasmus University Rotterdam and a graduate degree from the University of Groningen.
