Daren Mccrossan Smith

Mr. Daren M.
Smith, CFA, is a President & Chief Investment Officer at University of Toronto Asset Management Corp.
He joined the firm in November 2008 and over time assumed increasing levels of responsibility.
Immediately prior to current role, he was the Managing Director and head of the firm's manager selection team that is responsible for all investment related manager selection and monitoring activities.
He has also been actively involved in all aspects of the firm’s investment process including reference portfolio reviews, risk management, and performance attribution.
Prior to joining UTAM, Mr. Smith spent four years at Keel Capital where he was a partner and a senior member of the investment team that managed all of the assets for a Nova Scotia based pension plan.
He spent the early part of his career at Sun Life Financial and then Maritime Life working in an actuarial capacity.
He holds an undergraduate degree in Actuarial Science from the University of Western Ontario, a Master’s degree in Statistics from the University of British Columbia and a Master’s degree in Economics from McMaster University.
