Donald H. Cookson

Prior to forming Cookson, Peirce & Co., Inc. in 1984, Mr. Cookson spent many years with the metals industry in operations, research, engineering and technical executive positions.
In 1982, Mr. Cookson joined ASEA, Inc., a Swedish company with offices in Pittsburgh where he held the position of Manager of Metallurgical Technology.
He joined Dravo Corporation as staff metallurgist in 1967 after several years as supervisor of the research melt shop for Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co., Youngstown, Ohio and two years with Allegheny Ludlum Steel Co. as a Research Metallurgist in the Research Laboratory.
At Dravo, he was appointed Senior Process Engineer in 1970 and Manager, Technology Acquisition in 1979.
He was responsible for process development in the areas of continuous casting, electric furnace steelmaking and vacuum degassing of steels.
He was also responsible for the development with Inco of the TBRC Process and supervised the startup of a commercial plant at Sudbury, Ontario, Canada to produce a high grade nickel.
He also supervised the startup of an iron ore crushing and pelletizing plant built by Dravo for Cliffs Western Australia Mining Co., Pty.
Ltd., Robe River, Western Australia, and a BOF plant for the Steel Company of Canada, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
Mr. Cookson graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1957 and Metallurgical Engineering in 1960.
He continued his education with courses at the University of Michigan in steelmaking, Colorado School of Mines in Investment Decision Methods, Patent Law at George Washington University and the Patent Law Institute.
