Nordic Mining has submitted an application to the Environment Agency for substitution of chemicals used in the ore processing for the Engebø rutile and garnet project. The planned consumption is a 99% reduction compared with the granted chemicals in the environmental permit of 2015.

Process test work has proved that rutile processing can be optimized with reduced use of chemicals to reach required product quality. The consumption of chemicals has been reduced from 1,972 tonnes per annum involving 6 chemicals, to 3 chemicals totaling 9 tonnes per annum.

The chemicals have been tested and assessed and the conclusion is that there is low environmental risk associated with the planned use.
