International stocks trading in New York closed higher Tuesday.

The S&P/BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts closed 0.8% higher at 140.83. The European index rose 0.5% to 136.58. The Latin American index increased 2.5% to 179.19, while the emerging-markets index rose 0.4% to 271.92. The Asian index increased 0.8% to 162.70.

The ADRs of the Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Inc. and Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group Inc. traded actively after the Bank of Japan decided to let a benchmark interest rate rise to 0.5% from 0.25%.

The BOJ said the yield on the 10-year Japanese government bond could increase to up to 0.50%, pushing the yen higher.
