International stocks trading in New York closed mostly higher on Monday. The S&P/BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts rose 1.2% to 162. The European index improved 0.8% to 147.34. The Asian index increased 1.9% to 211.20. And the emerging-markets index rose 2% to 345.91. The Latin American index slipped 0.5% to 178.95.

ADRs of BioNTech SE tumbled 10% Monday. U.S. health regulators cleared the use of a Covid-19 booster from Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech in adolescents 12 to 15 years old, expanding access to an extra dose that could bolster the fight against the Omicron variant.

Nio Inc.'s ADRs rose 5.7% Monday after the China-based electric vehicle maker announced strong fourth-quarter deliveries. The company said over the weekend that it delivered 10,489 electric vehicles in December, up roughly 50% from a year ago.

Zurich Insurance Group AG's ADRs inched up 0.7% after the company said that its subsidiary Zurich Investments Life SpA has agreed to sell its Italian life and pension back book to Portuguese insurer Companhia de Seguros de Vida SA, also known as GamaLife, in a deal that it expects will release about $1.2 billion of capital.
