International stocks trading in New York finished higher Wednesday.

The S&P/BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts rose 0.7% to 166.57. The European index was 0.82% higher at 149.40. The Asian index increased 0.5% to 222.65. The Latin American index rose 1.1% to 177. And the emerging-markets index was up 0.67% at 364.22.

ADRs of Merck KGaA rose 4.71% after the company said it raised its forecast for the full year on the back of a strong performance in the third quarter.

Suez SA ADRs fell 1.85% after the company said earnings rose in the third quarter while revenue fell, and revised its full-year guidance for earnings before interest and taxes.
