International stocks trading in New York closed lower Thursday.

The S&P/BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts fell 0.2% to 139.93. The European index decreased 0.1% to 131.03, the Asian index fell 0.4% to 169.39, the Latin American index dropped 0.8% to 190.30 and the emerging markets index decreased 0.5% to 286.48.

Geely Automobile Holdings Ltd. and Astellas Pharma Inc. were among the companies with ADRs that traded actively.

ADRs of Geely Automobile fell 3.1% after the company said first-half net profit declined 35% as higher raw material and operating costs impacted profit margins.

ADRs of Astellas Pharma fell 1.6% after the Food and Drug Administration accepted the company's new drug application for fezolinetant, an oral, nonhormonal compound seeking approval for the treatment of moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms associated with menopause.

ADRs of Subsea 7 SA rose 1.9% after the company was awarded a contract for a floating wind development in South Korea.
