International stocks trading in New York closed mostly lower on Tuesday.

The S&P/BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts ticked down 1.7% to 155.79. The European index edged down 2.1% to 143.29. The Asian index retreated 1.6% to 193.72. The Latin American index rose 0.8% to 204.62, while the emerging-markets index moved down 1.5% to 325.50.

51job Inc. was among those whose ADRs traded actively.

The holding company that engages in human resource services was up 10% after it said it reached amended plans to go private in an acquisition deal.

Swedish telecommunications-equipment company Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson fell 4.5% after the company said it has suspended all deliveries to customers in Russia while it analyzes the potential impact of sanctions against the country.
