BOE Set for Smaller Interest-Rate Increases as Inflation Eases

0805 GMT - The Bank of England is likely to continue increasing interest rates, but the central bank is expected to raise them at a slower pace amid signs that inflation has passed its peak, Capital Economics' chief U.K. economist Paul Dales says in a note. Inflation is set to fall in the coming months, and November's data isn't likely to be a one-off and will probably ease the BOE's concerns of persisting price growth, he says. "We still think the Bank will increase rates by 50 basis points, from 3.00% to 3.50%, tomorrow," Dales says. "But another 75bps hike has just become less likely and it is possible that rates don't rise to the peak of 4.50% we are forecasting." (xavier.fontdegloria@wsj.com)
