Communications services companies rose, but lagged the broad market amid fears that Hollywood studios got the worst of a tentative agreement to end a monthslong strike.

Writers have secured a deal that would include increased royalties, guaranteed staffing levels of "writers' rooms" protections on the use of artificial intelligence, among other key provisions.

Warner Brothers Discover and other Hollywood studio owners sold off. Madison Square Garden Sports Chairman James Dolan said he has no interest in selling the company's pro sports teams -- the New York Knicks and Rangers, quashing rumors.
