Shares of energy companies rose slightly alongside the prices of energy commodities.

Oil futures topped $73 a barrel after the Energy Information Administration reported surprisingly large drawdowns in oil and gasoline stockpiles.

Natural gas futures rose 2.3% to $3.33-per-million British thermal units, amid forecasts for warmer weather on the East Coast and other U.S. regions, which is anticipated to spur demand for air conditioning.

The owner of the Limetree Bay oil refinery in the U.S. Virgin Islands is in early restructuring talks with creditors after pollution incidents and a cash crunch shut down the troubled plant indefinitely, The Wall Street Journal reported.
