Shares of energy companies fell as oil and natural gas prices remained near recent lows.

Natural gas futures rose slightly, despite a larger-than-anticipated buildup in stockpiles, but remained below the psychologically significant $5 per million British thermal units level.

Similarly, oil futures ticked up 0.8% but remained below the $80 per barrel level.

Russian energy producer Gazprom Neft said net profit rose to roughly $1.92 billion in the third quarter, reflecting higher production and commodity prices.
