March 7 (Reuters) - Engelhart Commodities Trading Partners is in talks to buy smaller trading rival Trailstone, three sources familiar with the subject said on Thursday.

Engelhart and Trailstone did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Austin, Texas-based Trailstone is backed by private equity firm Riverstone Holdings. Its trading portfolio includes natural gas and renewables.

Engelhart was formed by Brazilian bank BTG Pactual in 2013. (Reporting by Liz Hampton in Denver and Shariq Khan in New York)
