Yamhill County’s hospitality offerings have expanded with the addition of The Ground, an evolving collection of virtual and physical destinations. By nurturing the interconnectedness of nature, people and community, The Ground takes a holistic approach to hospitality with a philosophy of belonging that comes to life through five verticals: accommodations; programming; wellness; agroecology; and food and beverage. Its agroecology philosophy is rooted in the understanding that humans are a part of nature, which was first introduced with the founding of Tabula Rasa Farms, a regenerative agriculture farm raising heritage animals that serves as a thought-leader in permaculture.

“In 2009, I acquired 22 acres of land in Yamhill County. Fueled by my locavore tendencies and a strong desire to understand where my food was coming from, I envisioned a working farm that would cultivate harmony between land, animals and people,” said Tabula Rasa Farms owner Brenda Smola-Foti. “Four years ago, Tabula Rasa Farms was established as a regenerative agriculture farm. My husband, Frank Foti, joined my journey in 2019 and the seeds of a vision that would evolve into The Ground were planted.”

With a range of destinations and experiences planned in Carlton, McMinnville and beyond, The Ground exists to realize human potential in harmony with the planet. In addition to Tabula Rasa Farms, The Ground currently operates:

  • The Farm Stand at Tabula Rasa Farms: The Farm Stand stocks grass-fed beef, forested pork, pasture-raised eggs and other seasonal delights crafted with love from local growers and artisans.
  • The Farmhouse at Tabula Rasa Farms: Nestled on top of a hill with sweeping views of the valley, The Farmhouse joyfully connects land, animals and people. Visitors can book The Farmhouse through AirBnB and opt to enjoy a tour of the farm during their stay.
  • Wellness center: Open for tennis, the wellness center is evolving to include a gym, fitness classes and personal training.
  • Dining: A neighborhood bistro coming to McMinnville this summer.

The Ground has also grown to include 440 acres of land in outer Carlton and additional properties within Yamhill County. With the announcement of additional entities on the horizon, The Ground strives to foster potential on an individual and collective scale, regenerating nature through permaculture, humans through food and livelihood and community through education and enrichment.
