Pharmacy Times Continuing Education™ (PTCE™), a leader in continuing education for retail, health-system, managed care and specialty pharmacists, will conduct two continuing education symposia at the 52nd ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and Exhibition on Dec. 3 and Dec. 4, announced Dave Heckard, PTCE™ president.

In making the announcement, Heckard said, “Hyperkalemia and hemophilia are serious conditions, and their treatments can be a huge economic burden on patients. During these two highly informative symposia, we aim to tackle these challenging issues and focus on creating a better patient-centered care environment.”

  • Leveraging Pharmacist Expertise to Effectively Treat Hemophilia in Health Systems will be held on Dec. 3 at 3 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Orlando, Plaza International Ballroom H in Orlando, Florida. The symposia will feature Dr. Suchitra Acharya, professor of pediatrics, Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, and director, Long Island Jewish Hemostasis and Thrombosis Center, Northwell Health, and Luigi Brunetti, Pharm.D., MPH, associate professor of pharmacy, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, clinical pharmacist, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.   • The Role of the Hospital and Health-System Pharmacist in Managing Hyperkalemia will take place on Dec. 4 at 6:15 a.m. at the Rosen Centre Hotel, Grand Ballroom A, in Orlando, Florida. Faculty presenters for this program include Robert L. Page II, Pharm.D., MSPH, professor, Department of Clinical Pharmacy, University of Colorado, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and clinical specialist, Division of Cardiology, section of advanced heart failure/heart transplant, University of Colorado Health, and Dr. Paul J. Hauptman, professor of medicine (cardiology), Saint Louis University School of Medicine, and director of heart failure, Saint Louis University Hospital. The educational activities will feature a multidisciplinary panel that will explore management strategies to optimize patient outcomes. Each symposia will identify major issues that patients face during and after treatment, recognize techniques for pharmacists to better assist patients, and discuss individualized patient care. Both activities are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education and are approved for 1.5 contact hours.
