Shares in Toronto were up in midday trading on Thursday with Tilray Inc.'s shares moving higher after posting fiscal first-quarter earnings results.
At midday, Canada's S&P/TSX Composite Index was up 1.3% at 20435.07, while the blue-chip S&P/TSX 60 jumped 1.2% to 1227.67.
Tilray's shares rose 2.8% on Thursday to C$13.98 after the New York City-based company posted a flat per-share net loss in its fiscal first quarter as cannabis sales improved.
Other market movers:
Sierra Metals Inc.'s shares moved 4.2% higher to C$3 after the company said it completed a strategic review. The company said it will focus its efforts on increasing the production of metals, particularly for copper and steel-making products. The diversified mining company will also consider engaging in divestments, joint ventures or partnerships with its portfolio of assets.
