Feeling confident in the workplace: “I am a transgender man, and I am bisexual”

Luca Dolstra was 26 when he realised that he was a transgender man. When he tells his colleagues at ABN AMRO about his transition, he gets a lot of positive responses. But it also gives rise to questions. "Sometimes colleagues are very inquisitive and want to know personal details about your transition. It took a while before I was confident enough to set limits."

With the 'Feeling confident in the workplace' campaign, we provide a stage for our employees who have had to break through barriers just to be themselves. As part of Pride Week, we start the series with our LGBTI+ employees.

What does feeling safe and comfortable at work mean for our colleague Luca? In this podcast (in Dutch only), we talk with him. Luca works as a form developer at ABN AMRO, developing client forms and tools for the website.

Luca has a message for anyone still struggling with their gender identity. "Everyone should be able to be themselves at work, but in the end it's your story. No one but you can decide what you want to say about it."
