ACCIONA is awarded construction of New Children's Hospital in Panama

With a €560 million budget, the project is one of the Panama's largest initiatives. The hospital will have a 720-bed capacity, divided between the general medicine and maternity buildings
Panama's Ministry of Health (Minsa) has awarded ACCIONA the contract to build, equip and maintain the new children's hospital (Hospital del Niño) in Panama City (Panama). The project, worth US$614.2 million (€560 million), involves building one of the country's main hospital complexes, including a general practice center and an adjoining maternity hospital (Santo Tomás). There will be overall 720 beds between the two buildings.
ACCIONA will also be take over the restoration services of the facility's gardens, and the refurbishment of the administrative services building, as well as other adjacent facilities.
Once completed, the new hospital complex will include over 165,000m2 of new construction, as well as 5,700m2 of rehabilitated space. The Hospital del Niño will cover over 94,000 m2, offering 476 beds and 14 operating theatres. The complex will also have 700 parking spaces available across an area of 24,000m2. The new Santo Tomás maternity hospital will have a 244 bed-capacity as well as 14 operating theatres and 30 delivery rooms.
Experience in Panama
ACCIONA began its business activity in Panama in 2013 with the construction of the Dr. Rafael Hernandez Medical Specialities Center in the country's David district.
In the field of water treatment, ACCIONA is building various plants in Panama such as the Arraiján water treatment plant, with a treatment capacity of 150,000 m3 per day, which can be expanded to 227,000 m3, that is set to benefit 280,000 residents in the Panama Canal area. Other relevant projects in this area include the Sabanitas II water purification plant, which will provide 114,000 m3 of water per day to the towns of Sabanitas, Puerto Limón and Cativá, among others, benefiting some 150,000 people.
In other developments, the company is constructing one of the most emblematic road projects in the country. ACCIONA was awarded the expansion and rehabilitation contract for the Pan-American Highway section between Puente de la Americas - Arraiján, which links the west side of the Panama Canal with the metropolitan area of the city.
