Shares of Activision Blizzard Inc. jumped more than 37% in Tuesday premarket trading before being halted after The Wall Street Journal reported that Microsoft Corp. is nearing a deal to buy the video game maker for more than $50 billion.

Activision stock rose in premarket trading to $90 a share, up 37.6% from Friday's closing price of $65.39 a share. Microsoft stock last traded 2.5% lower in premarket trading.

Activision has been embattled for months over allegations of workplace misconduct. The stock fell more than 28% last year.
