Aktia Pankki Oyj : The possibility for development is motivating in a summer job

Hi everyone,

This is Aktia's Legal Trainee. I am a law student and am currently completing a master's degree in the International Business Law training programme at the Faculty of Law at the University of Helsinki. I am sharing my experiences about remote work as well as about what I have had the opportunity to do during this summer while working as a Legal Trainee.

From the very beginning of the recruitment process, I got a positive impression of Aktia as an employer and this impression has become stronger during my summer job. I started working remotely immediately after my first day and after that I have back to the office only a few times. I thought it was great how well the introduction at Aktia was arranged, despite the exceptional circumstances. The orientation happened mostly by doing and I have always had access to help and support for completing my duties. Despite working remotely, I have not felt lonely as I have continuously kept in touch with my colleagues, and I have had the chance to talk to the whole team during our daily meetings. The best thing about working remotely has hands down been the fact that you can work from anywhere, as long as you ensure information security.

The best thing in this summer job has been continuously learning new things and developing. For me, the biggest motivator is the opportunity to learn and Aktia has offered a possibility to do so via diverse duties. What I have found to be interesting in the position as a Legal Trainee is the bank sector combined with law.

Knowledge in inheritance law is helpful when completing my tasks and I have been able to deepen my knowledge through practical duties. My duties include examining and checking shareholders' reports and the documents necessary for doing the banking of estates, as the bank examines the documents to safeguard the interests of the parties concerned. In addition to checking documents, my tasks include the execution of orders in the estates. In addition to these duties, I provide both Aktia employees and customers with customer service. In this position I have found it meaningful that tasks vary and that I get work with new interesting challenges every day. I have been able to provide advice on various legal issues and answer questions related to doing the banking for estates.

The best thing about the duties has been giving out advice on different legal issues, having the opportunity to think about different cases and discussing suggestions with colleagues. Information retrieval and reflection on various issues have really helped me to develop and I have had the opportunity to challenge my own expertise. I feel that taking initiative and courageously expressing my own opinion is important in the Legal Trainee position. In the Legal Trainee position, I appreciate the way in which I can take responsibility and how the professionals at Aktia continuously support my development.

After this summer I can say that I have received valuable work experience that I am sure I can utilise in the future. Based on this experience I can warmly recommend Aktia as an employer!
