Astarta started a new sugar production season. On September 12, the first sugar plant in the Vinnytsia region started processing sugar beet. At the end of this week, a plant in the Poltava region will be launched, and three more will follow in the third decade and early October. In total, five sugar plants will operate in this production season.

"The teams and plants are fully prepared to work. In addition to capital repairs, we are implementing several investment projects to improve the quality of sugar and increase production productivity," says Yevhen Sadovyi, the Director of Agricultural Processing at Astarta. "We are also constantly exploring opportunities and best practices to increase the energy independence of our enterprises to ensure the continuity of production and processing processes. Last year, we replaced the gas-based pulp drying scheme with pellets of plant origin, purchased additional generators and increased biogas production at our bioenergy complex. This year, we are completing the conversion of three boilers to alternative fuels. In addition, these measures help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by reducing the consumption of fossil fuels".

Meanwhile, the agricultural subsidiaries of Astarta, which provide a significant part of the raw materials for the sugar plants, continue to harvest sugar beet, the total area of which this year is 39kha. The company is also actively cooperating with third-party agricultural producers, expanding the scope of cooperation from year to year.

"Considering all the factors, we plan to increase processing volumes and expand the geography of exports to European markets," added Yevhen Sadovyi.
